316L Stainless Steel Tube for Corrosive Environments

316L is an extremely corrosion resistant stainless steel, similar to 304 but with added molybdenum. This alloy is commonly used in chemical processing equipment like textiles, paper and pulp as well as heat exchangers and other parts exposed to aggressive environments.

Molybdenum added to 316L increases corrosion resistance, pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chloride ion solutions, as well as strength at elevated temperatures. Furthermore, this metal has excellent machinability and ease of welding, making it a popular choice for many applications.

Oil and gas industries frequently employ titanium. It can be machined using various techniques such as deep drawing, swaging, cold heading, rolling and bending; however it should be annealed after cold working to relieve stresses that have been created.

Corrosion Resistance & Weldability

316L’s low carbon content makes it resistant to oxidation, making it ideal for warm marine environments where chloride ions can form quickly. Furthermore, this material is less corrosive to oxygen and can operate at extremely low temperatures.

316L offers high tensile and yield strengths, as well as being lightweight – ideal for applications where space is at a premium.

316L Stainless Steel Pipe is offered in round, square and rectangular shapes with sizes ranging from 1/8” to 30” NB.

316L is one of the most commonly used austenitic stainless steels, second only to 304. It boasts excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of chloride ion solutions and has become particularly popular in seawater desalination plants, water supply lines and marine environments.
